October 26...Rocky Mountain National Park (Day 3)

(Kim's Perspective)
It was 26 degrees when we woke up this morning. We talked about the time we were tent camping at Yellowstone National Park and we woke up to a 26 degree morning. That was brutal. This made us oh so grateful to be in the trailer with a furnace. :P Though it was only 44 inside, one little flick of the remote and the trailer was as warm as could be. We prefer to let it get somewhat cool in the trailer at night - all four of us sleep better when it stays cool. In this instance, I think we just forgot to turn the heat on. :)

We decided to take a drive and see what there was to see.

Most everything was closed for the season, so there really wasn't that much to see or do. We did spot this in the parking lot...

Holy Cow! Now THAT is a snow blower!

We took the Boys up to Trail Ridge Road which was recently closed for the season. It was quite cold...

yep, that's 17 degrees on the temp gauge.

The winds were ridiculous. There was ice on the road

and the Boys were running and sliding in the snow. They seemed to enjoy themselves immensely...

We walked for a short distance and as we came around the first overlook on the mountain, the winds were blowing so hard we had to turn our backs and hide our faces to avoid being pelted by the razor sharp snow flakes.

Forget that! Let's go have an early lunch somewhere. :)

We found the Mountain Home Café and bellied up to the table for some down home style cookin'. They had awesome red and green chili. Yum! While we were out, we filled our spare propane tank before heading back to the campground.

We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening at the trailer happy that we had 2 full propane tanks to supply us with heat and hot water. It was cold. Brrr...
