August 11...SNRA (Day 16 - Departure...Sniff, Sniff)

(Kim's Perspective)
Today was a very sad day. It was time for us to move on from the most amazing place we've been and hope that the rest of our trip can be even as remotely good as the last 16 days in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Sigh...

We had a leisurely morning and discussed where we would head next. We decided on Lolo, Montana and picked a National Forest campground by the name of Lee Creek. It seemed kind of remote and since it was only Wednesday, we weren't too concerned that it would be full.

We packed up and headed out around 12:00 and stopped by to say goodbye to Karma and give her the "gift basket" I had put together for her and Chloe. She got teary eyed. I did too. We hugged. She's a really great lady and she totally helped to make our stay awesome.

We left Sunny Gulch and headed to the Stanley Ranger Station where we could dump our tanks. When we arrived, there were 3 RVs in front of us. We have no idea what they were doing that was taking so long, but we waited for AN HOUR to dump our tanks and fill our fresh water tank. It's nice not to be on a schedule, but even still, waiting an hour to dump poo is NOT a good use of our time. It only takes us about 10 minutes to do the "doodie" (HA! I made a funny) of dumping the tanks, so we have difficulty understanding how it can take a group of people an hour to perform this task. I guess we're just extremely efficient when it comes to eliminating our excrement. Eeewwwww...that just sounds gross. :P

We headed up 75 towards Challis and enjoyed the scenery along the way.

Bill spotted a bald eagle swooping by the river and naturally, I had him pull over so I could take some pics.

We continued North and took in the sights of the landscape and the local small town "flare".

We drove through some rain, but were rewarded with a really cool view after the rain cleared...

We picked up some groceries at the Safeway in Hamilton and made it to the Lee Creek Campground right as it was getting dark. This campground was adequate, but not nearly as nice as we were hoping it would be, so we decided to just stay the night and bug out first thing in the morning. We didn't even get any pics of the site. We had dinner, walked the Boys and headed to bed.

We were both still bummed about leaving Stanley, yet we were happy to be back on the road and heading to our next destination...Glacier National Park.
