September 18...Nehalem Bay State Park (Day 4)

(Kim's Perspective)
We drove to Portland today. It rained. We took 53 to 26. I drove. 53 was so winding that Bill got car sick. He didn't puke - but only because I was able to pull over and let him get out and walk around awhile. He was looking pretty pale. He now appreciates my sacrifice of usually sitting in the navigator seat. Nope - not easy to mess around with the map, the GPS, and the Droid while driving twisty, curvy roads. ;P

We went to Saturday Market and had an Elephant Ear with Marionberry jam (Marion Berry - that just makes us laugh) and walked around looking at all the vendors.

NOTE: This is a stranger with a black dog NOT either one of us..we would never wear black socks. :)

We were stopped countless times by people who wanted to know "what kind of dogs are those?" It was getting to the point where it was almost annoying. We literally had a crowd of people around us at one point. One lady literally BONKED ME ON THE HEAD with her hand to demonstrate how her little mini Pomeranian hit its head and died. Apparently little dogs have soft spots on their heads that make them vulnerable to head injuries. Good thing I don't. I couldn't believe it. A perfect stranger smacked me on the top of the head. ?!?!?!?! It was a good thing she was holding her other little Pom who, I might add was wearing and I quote, "eyeliner to match her Mommy's". It's also a good thing the woman reeked of alcohol - this explains your poor judgment in hitting a perfect stranger on the head. Weirdo. Mental note: Anyone who puts eyeliner on their dog can't be trusted.

We were also stopped by one of the exhibitors who had a wolf hybrid in a crate behind his booth. We took a look - handsome dog. We smiled and reserved our judgmental comments about the stupidity of having a wolf hybrid as a pet. Good luck with that, Buddy. Let me know who attains alpha status in the next year.

We continued on, had some lunch, and then headed back to the truck. We needed more dog food, so we located a natural pet food place in town that carried the Natural Planet Organics that we feed the Boys. We chatted with the owner and she offered me some tips on packaging my biscuits. We loaded the 75 pounds of food into the truck and headed back.

City self portrait!

The Boys enjoyed their second urban adventure, but like us, they seem to prefer Seattle over Portland. Or, it could just be that walking around the city in the rain isn't as much fun.
