Today was a BLAST!!!!!
Feel free to go full screen and pause the video at the moment the water crests the boat just to get a sense of what we experienced. Oh, and the temperature of the water you ask? I'll let you figure it out from the reactions you see and hear.
Captain Mike called it the "Piledriver"...
The other one...
(Bill's Perspective)
We got up early for us and headed through the canyon to the boat launch. 17 miles of winding up and down on a gravel road...good times. Spectacular views every which way were the theme for the day. Driving around here is hard because there is always something else fighting for your attention. I'm sure Kim is seeing much more of these canyons than I am. This is fine, by the way, because I look at the canyon. Kim looks at the flowers and the birdies and the rocks and the way the dead pine trees contrast with the blue sky and... Yeah, I'll drive.
The boat was supposed to be at the dock at 11. They were late. Capacity was about half and that was just fine. The tour started about 4 hours earlier way north of us and the part we missed was mostly smooth water and pretty scenery. We've been on the road for 12 thousand miles. We've got scenery covered and we don't have 12 or more hours to dedicate to this ride. We hopped on the boat, headed up to the "lodge" for "lunch" :o) I'll let Kim explain. Then we switched boats and headed into the good stuff. I've seen videos but I was still kinda of shocked when I saw the first big rapids and then felt dude slow down. Not unlike coming down the river in a raft which I've done before, going up through class 4 and 5 rapids apparently takes a fair amount of precision. Dude got all serious on us and asked that everyone stay seated as he needed to see what he was doing. Yeah, he was in the back. Oh the faith we place in other people sometimes. The boat was long and mostly very steady but it reminded me of a motorcycle without front shocks...that was doing a lot of wheelies. Oooof.
