September 20...En Route to Deschutes River State Rec Area

(Kim's Perspective)
We got up at 8:30, took the Boys out and then came back in to catch up on the blog before heading out. It was still drizzling rain but the weather forecast for where we’re ultimately headed was looking good.

We were pleasantly surprised and kind of amazed at how the scenery changed from thick wooded and wet canopy...

to tall stately pines...

to desert sagebrushwithin a 30 minute window.

It was kind of weird and felt like we were walking through a Stargate. ;-P

We arrived at the Deschutes River State Recreation Area campground just before dinner – and just in time.

There was only one site left that would accommodate a trailer our size. We snagged it and set up in our standard flurry and as we were closing the door to walk our camping fee to the self registration booth, the camp host zipped over on his cart and said in a slightly amazed tone “you guys just pulled up a few minutes ago?!” “Yep.” “Well, you just beat that big motor home in.” We looked at each other and, after the camp host left, gave each other a little fist bump. Wooohooo!

The weather was warm and sunny (man, that feels good!) so we went for a 2 hour hike along one of the park trails.

This is us having an instant happy about the fact that it's warm and not raining.

And this is me in a massive drain pipe saying "Hellooooo" to the Boys. I hid in there, Bill sent them to find me and Twist couldn't figure out where I was and why my voice sounded so weird. They're supposed to be smart....humpf. ;P

We watched the sun set

and the moon rise over the canyon.

It was SO NICE to be someplace where we could actually see the sun and the moon. We had no idea how bummed we both were with the lack of sunshine until our moods perked up the instant we set foot on that sunny trail. Ahhhh…BKEA…back on. ;)
