En route to our mountain cabin...August 30 - Day 12

(Kim's Perspective)
We were sad to be leaving our awesome campsite so I took a few more pictures before we hit the road (a little after 7:00 am).

We stopped in town for gas before beat feeting out of New Hampshire and heading home. Lane navigated...

...and I snapped photos. As we were leaving the White Mountains, there was a really cool cloud formation over the top of one of the mountains. I tried to get a good shot of it, but this was the best I could do....
We took 2 West, crossed into Vermont, and picked up 91 South.

After our second gas stop, the Sitts peeled off to head to a nearby campground to dump their tanks. Though only 10:30, I packed up lunch fixings to make on the road. Our plan was to get home before dark and lingering too long at gas stops would quickly delay our ETA. We took 91 through Massachusetts...which apparently has the same concern for its roadways as Iowa...

...and headed into Connecticut....

Not having ANY interest in driving anywhere near NYC, we jumped off 91 (which intersects with 95 and obviously takes you to the Rotten Apple) and took 84 West. Lane patiently sat on my lap as the miles ticked by.

We crossed into New York on 84...

...and Kitteh decided that New York was ugly and boring so he racked out in the back seat.
We periodically texted the Sitts to check on them (they had decided to take 95 down) and, though we hit a little rain in PA, we had a pretty uneventful ride.

We made it home right at 8pm - pretty much exactly how long we expected it to take. We got out of the truck and walked around to assess the bear damage. Joe had been checking on the house for us and texted us to let us know the bear had visited. I didn't know what to expect, but was pretty happy with the extent of the "damage". We either have one very stupid or one very lazy bear. He didn't even bother eating the bird food out of the one feeder!

We walked up the porch, unlocked the door and stopped as we walked through the door. We both looked at each other and smiled. Wow! This place is awesome! It felt like we just went on vacation again! We absolutely love it here and every day really does feel like we're on vacation. It's so peaceful and private. I love traveling and seeing new things, but the "getting away from it all" camping experience doesn't have the appeal or value that it once did. We don't need to get away from it all because we're away from it every day. And our property is far more private than any campsite we're likely to find anywhere (except in Idaho that is!!). So my point? For once in our lives, we were actually happy to return home. :)
