Today was a recovery day for the Boys. They were totally wiped out from our Titus Lake hike and were quite stiff and sore when they woke up this morning. Awww...poor babies. Time for a massage.
In case you're wondering, the Boys LOVE a good massage. The best thing about it is that they're always grateful and show their appreciation accordingly. How can I tell? You be the judge...
After my massage work was done...
...we left the Boys to sleep in the trailer...guilt free...
and headed to Stanley to do a little laundry and grab a bite to eat. We ate at Luce's Sawtooth Grill and chatted with a guy sitting at the table behind us about the Fisher Creek ride and how it compared to the downhill at Bald Mountain.
The service at the restaurant was pretty slow, so I had to quickly finish my meal and walk back to the laundromat to switch our laundry to the dryers. Bill stayed behind and paid the bill and walked over after 15 minutes or so. The dryers were uber industrial scorch your clothes kind of hot, so it didn't take long for the loads to dry.
We headed over to the outdoor store and proceeded to spend a ridiculous amount of time nosing around and trying to decide on what t-shirts and sweatshirts to buy.
Since we're on a pretty tight budget, we've been avoiding "unnecessary" purchases as much as possible. Since we've spent so much time in Stanley however, I thought we should get some mementos to remind us of what a great time we've had here. Two t-shirts for Bill, one sweatshirt for me, and we were off. It was hard to not buy more - the store rivaled that of any REI and there was a ton of Royal Robbins, SmartWool, Prana, and ExOfficio gear. They had a kickin' footwear section and we both wanted to buy a couple more pair of shoes, but alas, we behaved and walked out relatively on budget.
We headed back to the trailer around 5pm and spent the rest of the evening sitting outside in our oh-so-comfy chairs with Kindles in hand and the Boys at our feet.
Feeling a little guilty about my large lunch, I decided on a healthy salad for dinner. It was awesome if I do say so myself. Here is proof of its tasty awesomeness. :)
It got chilly (like it does every night here) and since neither one of us wanted to call it quits, we grabbed our sleeping bags, and wiggled our way into them and plopped ourselves back in our chairs and continued to read via headlamp. It was so nice to just sit with the cool breeze blowing but be snuggled down in my sleeping bag. At one point, Bill noticed that his sleeping bag is a (Marmot) "Sawtooth" bag. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I'd like to think of it as a sign. :)
Unfortunately, no one really lives in Stanley year-round. It's too stinking cold. In fact, Stanley holds the record for having the most days (368) during the last 10 or so years with the lowest temperature of anywhere in the lower 48. Since every night we've been here the temps have been in the low 30s and it's JULY/AUGUST, I'm not really surprised. ;)
Cold or not, it's an amazing place and we absolutely love it here.
