I woke up entirely too early considering my 2am bedtime last night. I let the Boys out, made some coffee and tried to catch up on the blog. FAIL.
We made plans with Jack and Trish to go hiking so we loaded up the dogs and headed to their place. With the Girls and the Boys in tow, we had to drive separate vehicles, so we followed the ole’ Liberty and headed to Mount Spokane.
Bill and I were both shocked at the elevation and the scenery.
For some reason, we both kind of assumed it would be a little-ish mountain – certainly not one at 6,000+ feet – we were ill prepared for the cool temps and the hefty wind at the peak.
After some stick time...
and taking time to play and enjoy the views of the surrounding lakes and valleys...
...we headed to the warming hut...
...and did some scrambling on the rocks.
The view on this side of the mountain was just as nice...
We played on the rocks for quite awhile and then headed to the trailhead at the top of the mountain. The trail was pretty steep and rugged and was not suitable for a casual hike through the woods with 2 dogs and 2 small children so we turned around and agreed that a more mellow trail further down the mountain would be a better idea.
Once we got to the parking area at the second trailhead, the temperature was much warmer and the trail was much more enjoyable for bi-peds and canines alike.
We didn’t hike long, but it was enough to wear the Boys out and for us to get a little exercise and breathe some fresh, mountain air.
After the hike, we headed to a few of the local orchards and picked up some fresh peaches. Mmmmm…so good!
We followed Jack and Trish back to their house and I washed a couple loads of laundry while we were there. Jack made some yummy burgers laced with gorgonzola cheese (huh, never thought of putting cheese IN the burger) ;) and we chatted over dinner.
It’s nice to connect with them again. We’ve really missed them. It’s rare to find good neighbors who become good friends and, more importantly, the kind of friends that you can connect with after a long period of time and it doesn’t feel like you’ve been apart. Jack and Trish are just good people and it’s always great to hang out with people like that. Their girls are adorable and some of the most well-behaved and certainly most polite children we’ve ever met. “Would you like me to help you, Silly Moose?” “NO! Thank You.” Ahhhh, the independence of a 2 year old. :) No, she clearly doesn’t want me to help her, but at least she’s ridiculously polite about letting me know. :P
We had another late night at the U household and didn’t get home till after midnight again. Wow. We’re hanging out with friends who have a 3 year old and a 2 year old and they’re killing us. We need to sleep!! ;P
