October 19...En Route to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP

(Kim's Perspective)
We left Moab and headed to "Colorful Colorado". You'd think they'd have a nicer sign... ??

It was indeed colorful, though I think we've missed the peak color.

The landscape was weird. It was still very "deserty" as we were driving through Grand Junction (where we stopped to stock up on groceries), but...

the landscape quickly changed and every once in a while, we got glimpses of the snow capped mountains.

We arrived at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park around 6pm.

We had about half an hour to get to the campground and secure a spot before it got dark. Since there were about 6 other campers total in the 3 campground loops, we didn't have any issues. :) It was a nice site too - even had electric - and an off-season price of $12 per night. Wooohooo!

(This picture was actually taken the following morning).

We took the Boys for a nice long walk around the entire campground and then did our nightly dinner routine. I did some research on the park and the surrounding area to learn what there is to see and do. I also spent some time researching Great Sand Dunes NP and decided we definitely need to swing by there on our way to Rocky Mountains. Looks like a really cool place.
