Today was what I like to refer to as a "necessary evil" day. We had some trailer repair issues to contend with, so our day went a little something like this...
I slept till 6:30 then got up and worked on the blog while Bill chilled. The
Sitts went for an 8:30 - 9:30 horseback ride and mentioned that they wanted to go into Rapid City to see about getting their electric jack repaired. Bill and I ate breakfast and waited for them to return. We ended up driving separately and taking care of our own errands which included the purchase of a new wheel at Blake's Trailer, the mounting and repair (plug) of our tires at Dale's Tires, and the repair of our air bags at Royal Wheel Suspension. For the record, this was the most amazing and efficient "repair experience" we've ever had. Each place we stopped got us in and out within 30 minutes. In fact, our wheel purchase at Blake's took us about 5 minutes and all three businesses were about a mile apart so we were just jamming out our to-do list as fast as we could. The air bag hose system had sprung a leak and the good folks at Royal Wheel Suspension had to run to a local shop to pick up a new hose that would fit, but they kindly told us to come back in an hour and they would have everything they needed. Sweet.
We left and went back to Dale's Tires to pick up the wheels/tires and tried to coordinate lunch with the Sitts. They were able to get their jack repaired at a local RV dealership and were wrapping up around the same time. They stopped to wash the truck and camper and we waited for them in a large parking lot across the street from the local restaurant that was recommended to us. When they arrived, we all crammed in our truck but we couldn't find a parking spot at the restaurant. Since it was getting late (RWS told us to come back in an hour) we just bagged it and headed back to get the air bags taken care of. The bags were repaired in a jiffy and we returned to the campground around 2pm. Total cost for the day's repairs was about a hundred bucks. Not shabby considering how smoothly everything went. Well, everything except for lunch!
Bill and I ate and the Sitts arrived shortly after. We chatted about our morning and then we spent the afternoon just hanging out. I worked on the blog a bit and then around 6:30, we jumped in the truck and headed out to drive the Wildlife Loop. Bill saw an old "deer" which he thought was pretty cool. :)
We also saw a herd of buffalo, but otherwise
it was largely disappointing and anticlimactic compared to the last time we were here. The buffalo made Shele happy though so it was worth it. We got back
to the trailer around 8:30. We needed to load the bikes for our 7 am departure tomorrow and made relatively quick work of it considering it was dark and we were trying not to make noise (i.e. we pushed the bikes up the ramp instead of riding them up). We organized the truck and trailer to ensure a relatively quick and easy departure tomorrow morning. Our destination - Rocky Mountain National Park. :D
