Day Trip to Mt. Ridge ATV Park...July 16

(Bill's Perspective)  [With minor commentary from Kim.]

One might accuse me of trying to kill my XT250.  Perhaps not an inaccurate statement.  But I'm having fun.  We rode up to PA to check out Mount Ridge ATV Trails.  http://www.mountainridgeatvtrails.com/  It's a private joint in Central City, PA right near the Flight 93 Memorial.  We didn't make it over to the memorial but we're going back up in the fall so we'll see it then.

This was just a scouting day trip for us to make sure we wanted to commit to a long weekend later this year.  It's private so we weren't sure what to expect from the campground and I'm a little picky about where I try to put that camper.  Campground isn't great but it doesn't suck and it will be nice to just hop on the bike and be on the trail within a minute.  Better for a quad / SxS friends.  Yes, the same folks that bought a brand new sport touring quad in New Hampshire just picked up a Polaris 900 Razor Trail.  Looks fun.

They had been there before so they led us around to some of the bunny trails then some blue trails.  Good times were had.  It was dusty and mostly dry.  Most trails are open field or scrubby trees as opposed to the nearly full canopy at HMT.  We made it work.  We'll need to clean our stuff in a whole new way after riding in heavy dust tho.  Toward the end of the day, we rode one last blue trail and it was quite nice.  It was a little faster than the others and we tend to make a lot of time over Bill n Shele on their machines.  Then, suddenly, both bikes were on the ground!!

WHAT?!?

We pulled over at the end of the trail to wait on them.  It was shady and almost cool with the breeze.  We had some time to kill.  Kim was sitting on her bike, very much like she used to do on her FJ.  The FJ was far more tolerant of this behavior.  The XT, with its soft suspension and long sidestand, notsomuch.  As Kim became more tired and relaxed more and leaned back on her little topcase more, the suspension compressed a little more and said kickstand pitched the bike over.  I saw this, called her name, and watched the hilarity ensue.  Kim performed some catlike maneuver mid air whereby she somehow didn't fall on the ground....I think.  Everyone was watching in horror as her bike falling over knocked into my bike and knocked it to the ground.  The horror came with the sound of crunching at the end.  Kim has dropped her bike quite a few times now.  Other than slightly bendy clutch and brake handles, there's been almost no damage.  She's dropped it on rocks, thrown it into water, tossed it into trees etc...  Mine drops into the weeds at a standstill and my blinker is smashed to bits.  Go figure.  Kim feels horrible.  I'm laughing my butt off.  Bill n Shele are just confused cuz they'd just rolled up on us and as far as they could tell, Kim just kicked both bikes over.  Good times.
[For the record, I had been leaning back and resting on the bike for over 15 minutes while we waited for the Sitts to catch up.  I was in the shade and there was a nice breeze so I kicked back again to relax while the Sitts took a break.  I closed my eyes for a bit...and shifted slightly in the saddle.  I didn't even feel the bike move until Bill yelled my name - at which point, my eyes flew open, I realized I was falling and I jumped off the bike in time to watch it fall over and knock into Bill's bike.  I was mortified.  My bike has taken quite the beating from countless drops, and aside from that recent clutch replacement, I've never had to replace broken bits on it.  I couldn't believe I bashed up Bill's bike.  I felt like an idiot.  And still do.  D'OH!  Fortunately, and I say this with disdain and sarcasm, Mr. Sitt was ready with the camera to capture my humiliation for all time.]

We finished up that trail and hit the little one we started with as a final stretch of the proverbial legs.  All trails are one way so it makes for some good confidence when plowing into tight turns.  Love that bit.  Only common to and from trails are bi directional.

It was a pretty good day.  Long drive but now we know it's a place we could easily spend some time at.  They have a sort of a motocross track type thing that was fun to play on as well.  I really need a bigger bike.  I will kill the suspension on this XT.
